Davidsonia jerseyana is a nearly extinct variety of Australian Rain Plum found only in the North East of Northern NSW, Australia. It is predominantly wild and plantation harvested for only two summer months of the year. ![]()
In ancient Aboriginal folk lore it is considered a sacred fruit bestowed upon the Widjabul people, part of the Bundjalung Nation, who traditionally reside in this area.
Australian Rain Plum contains high levels of the antioxidant called anthocyanins which appear as natural red pigments. It also contains lutein, vitamin E and folate, Zn, Mg, Ca, Mo and a high potassium:sodium (K:Na) ratio.
Some studies support the view supplemental lutein helps protect against Macular Degeneration and the development of cataracts.
It is known anthocyanins produce hydrogen which supports cellular health, promoting generally better all year round health.
Increased intakes of antioxidant anthocyanins resulted in a 13.7 per cent increase in levels of HDL cholesterol (good) and a 13.6 percent reduction in levels of LDL cholesterol (bad) in a 2009 study involving 120 people in the US.
Consuming even moderate levels of antioxidant rich ‘red juices’ may help prevent atherosclerosis.
Our Australian Rain Plum contains 82.2mg of anthocyanins per gram described by the study scientist as ‘extraordinary’. High levels of Myrtillin and Keracyanin were also found in sampling; both of these antioxidants are associated with managing serotonin and blood sugar levels. Antioxidants are known to work on all cellular levels.
